Painted over three mornings on a hillside south of Bucharest, this landscape captures the particular quality of early summer light before the heat builds and flattens the colour. The paint was applied quickly, wet into wet, preserving the freshness of the first observations before conditions changed.
The composition is deliberately open — no roads, no architecture, nothing to anchor the eye beyond the horizontal movement of light across the field. The green in the middle distance was the most reworked passage, repainted twice before settling into its current warmth.
About the artist
Ana Popescu works primarily in oil on canvas, drawn to the way light behaves differently across landscape, interior, and figure. Her practice is built on sustained observation — she often revisits the same subject across multiple sessions, letting the paint accumulate an honesty that only time in front of the motif can produce.
Based in Bucharest, she accepts commissions and welcomes conversations with collectors about scale, palette, and how a work will live in a specific space. Studio visits are available by appointment.
