A single pomegranate on folded linen — a subject chosen for the difficulty of its colour rather than its symbolism. The red resists easy mixing, shifting between warm and cool in ways that only sustained looking in oil can track.
The cloth proved the more demanding problem: white linen in diffused northern light requires decisions about temperature and value that become impossible once the paint surface is overworked. Three attempts were needed before it settled.
About the artist
Ana Popescu works primarily in oil on canvas, drawn to the way light behaves differently across landscape, interior, and figure. Her practice is built on sustained observation — she often revisits the same subject across multiple sessions, letting the paint accumulate an honesty that only time in front of the motif can produce.
Based in Bucharest, she accepts commissions and welcomes conversations with collectors about scale, palette, and how a work will live in a specific space. Studio visits are available by appointment.
