Made on the Black Sea coast on a morning when mist reduced the landscape to a set of tonal relationships rather than defined forms. The horizon was barely visible; sea and sky occupied the same register of grey-blue.
Working wet into wet throughout preserved the atmospheric softness of that specific condition. The paper's texture was left active in the sky area, contributing a granular quality that the wash alone could not have produced.
About the artist
Ana Popescu works primarily in oil on canvas, drawn to the way light behaves differently across landscape, interior, and figure. Her practice is built on sustained observation — she often revisits the same subject across multiple sessions, letting the paint accumulate an honesty that only time in front of the motif can produce.
Based in Bucharest, she accepts commissions and welcomes conversations with collectors about scale, palette, and how a work will live in a specific space. Studio visits are available by appointment.
