This painting began as a roofscape study but moved away from representation as the process continued. What remains of the original source is a horizontal rhythm and a colour temperature — the warm greys of concrete and terracotta at dusk.
Acrylic allowed reworking across the large surface without penalty. Each revision covered but did not fully erase the previous state, and the layers beneath are visible in places as warm undertones showing through the cooler upper passages.
About the artist
Ana Popescu works primarily in oil on canvas, drawn to the way light behaves differently across landscape, interior, and figure. Her practice is built on sustained observation — she often revisits the same subject across multiple sessions, letting the paint accumulate an honesty that only time in front of the motif can produce.
Based in Bucharest, she accepts commissions and welcomes conversations with collectors about scale, palette, and how a work will live in a specific space. Studio visits are available by appointment.
