The painting was made over five sessions, each beginning at the same time of afternoon to ensure consistency of the light, which was the primary concern throughout. The figure's expression changed from session to session; the final painting represents its average.
About the artist
Roxana Enescu's paintings come from an unhurried, observational practice built over many years in the field and in the studio. She is equally at ease with landscape and portraiture, and the transition between the two modes feels natural because both are, fundamentally, about the quality of light on a surface — whether that surface is a hillside or a face.
She is based in Sibiu and paints regularly in the Olt Valley and the Apuseni mountains. She exhibits annually in Sibiu and Bucharest, and her work is held in private collections across Romania and Germany. She accepts commissions for both landscapes and portraits.
